AI Engineer

Remote • Full-time

Build and improve the conversational AI that powers abeni—empathetic, safe responses for users seeking emotional support.

Join Inner Work Tech to build the conversational intelligence at the heart of abeni. You will work on NLP pipelines, model evaluation, and safety systems alongside Full Stack, Product, Clinical Research, and Content teammates so responses stay accurate, empathetic, and clinically appropriate at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, train, and fine-tune NLP models for empathetic dialogue, intent detection, and crisis-aware routing.
  • Build evaluation frameworks for response quality, safety, bias, and user satisfaction across model iterations.
  • Partner with Clinical Research and Content specialists to encode therapeutic guidelines into model constraints.
  • Optimize inference latency and cost for production on mobile and cloud infrastructure with Full Stack engineers.
  • Monitor production performance and investigate edge cases, hallucinations, and safety failures.
  • Stay current on LLMs, RAG, and responsible AI practices relevant to mental health applications.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years in NLP, conversational AI, or machine learning engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with transformer models and fine-tuning (BERT, GPT, Llama, etc.).

Full Stack Developer

Remote • Full-time

Own features end-to-end across abeni’s mobile app, APIs, and cloud infrastructure with a focus on reliability and privacy.

As a Full Stack Developer, you ship across our React Native app, API services, and cloud stack. You collaborate with AI Engineer, Product Manager, and UI/UX Designer teammates to scale a mental health platform while meeting high standards for security, HIPAA-aligned data handling, and user privacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain features across the abeni mobile app (React Native) and backend services (Node.js).
  • Design RESTful and real-time APIs that support conversational AI, profiles, and analytics.
  • Implement authentication, encryption, and data practices aligned with HIPAA and privacy best practices.
  • Deploy and monitor services on AWS, GCP, or Azure with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with AI, product, and design to ship user-facing features on tight iteration cycles.

Define abeni’s roadmap and ship features with engineering, design, and clinical partners that truly help users.

As Product Manager, you own discovery through launch for abeni. You balance user needs, clinical safety (with Clinical Research and Content), business goals, and technical feasibility—working daily with AI, Full Stack, Design, Data, and Marketing so every release is coherent and measurable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the product roadmap and prioritize features from research, data, and strategy.
  • Write product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering and design.
  • Run discovery, interviews, and beta programs to validate new concepts.
  • Define and track metrics (engagement, retention, satisfaction, safety incidents) with Data Analysts.
  • Coordinate launches across engineering, design, clinical, and marketing.
  • Monitor the AI mental health landscape and identify differentiation opportunities.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of product management, preferably consumer or B2C.
  • Experience in health tech or mental health products.

UI/UX Designer

Design calm, accessible mobile experiences for people seeking emotional support through abeni.

Shape how users feel when they open abeni. You design trustworthy interfaces for people who may be stressed or vulnerable, partnering with Product, Full Stack, and Content so flows for onboarding, check-ins, and AI conversations feel supportive—not clinical or cold.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design end-to-end flows for onboarding, daily check-ins, AI conversations, and wellness features.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups in Figma for mobile-first experiences.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design decisions.
  • Maintain a design system that keeps abeni consistent across screens.
  • Partner with product and engineering to iterate quickly and fix UX pain points.
  • Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG) and support diverse users.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of UI/UX design for digital products.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite.

Clinical Research & Medical Partnerships Specialist

Lead clinical research, evidence generation, and medical partnerships that keep abeni scientifically grounded and collaboratively connected to care.

Bridge research and real-world care for abeni. You design evaluation studies, cultivate relationships with clinicians and institutions, and translate findings into product and safety guidance—working with Product, AI, Content, Strategy & Policy, and Marketing so partnerships and evidence inform what we build and how we talk about it.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and run clinical research, pilots, and outcome evaluations for abeni features and safety protocols.
  • Build partnerships with clinics, universities, and medical advisors for co-development and validation.
  • Synthesize literature and study results into guidance for Product, AI Engineer, and Content teams.
  • Support IRB/ethics processes, data use agreements, and research documentation with Strategy & Policy.
  • Coordinate advisory boards and clinician feedback loops that improve conversation quality and escalation paths.
  • Contribute evidence-backed messaging for Marketing and thought leadership without overclaiming clinical outcomes.

Mental Health Content Specialist

Craft and review therapeutic conversation flows and content that power abeni’s day-to-day user interactions.

abeni’s conversations rest on evidence-based practice. As a Mental Health Content Specialist, you write and review scripts, prompts, and frameworks with Clinical Research partners and AI Engineers so interactions stay supportive, clinically appropriate, and culturally sensitive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop conversation flows, coping exercises, and psychoeducation aligned with CBT, mindfulness, and related methods.
  • Review AI-generated responses for clinical appropriateness, tone, and safety.
  • Create guidelines for crisis detection, escalation, and referral messaging with Clinical Research.
  • Collaborate with AI Engineers to encode therapeutic principles into prompts and guardrails.
  • Update content from user feedback, clinical review, and emerging research.
  • Keep content inclusive, accessible, and appropriate for diverse populations.

Requirements:

  • Background in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related mental health field.

Turn abeni user data into insights that improve product decisions, AI quality, and growth outcomes.

Build dashboards, analyses, and experiments that show how users engage with abeni. You partner with Product, AI Engineer, Business Analyst, and Marketing so metrics for retention, safety, and feature adoption stay consistent and actionable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Query user behavior with SQL to uncover usage patterns and engagement trends.
  • Build and maintain dashboards (Tableau, Looker, or similar) for product and leadership.
  • Design and analyze A/B tests on retention, satisfaction, and feature impact.
  • Provide data inputs for AI model evaluation and improvement.
  • Report regularly on DAU, retention, session length, and feature adoption.
  • Ensure data quality and documented metric definitions across teams.

Connect Product, Engineering, Marketing, and operations. You document workflows, write requirements for sprints, and partner with Data Analysts and Strategy & Policy so priorities, KPIs, and business cases stay aligned in a fast-moving startup.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and document requirements from product, marketing, and operations stakeholders.
  • Write user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria for development sprints.
  • Analyze operational and user data with SQL, Excel, and BI tools.
  • Support KPI tracking on engagement, conversion, and platform performance with Data Analysts.

Internally, you use data and financial modeling to guide growth and partnerships. Externally, you track AI, privacy, and digital therapeutics policy—working with Clinical Research, Product, and Marketing so compliance requirements become clear product and messaging guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategy projects on markets, growth, and partnerships; build models to quantify impact.
  • Analyze user, market, and competitive data (SQL, Python/R, Tableau) for actionable insights.
  • Monitor AI, HIPAA/CCPA, and digital therapeutics regulation; advise Product and Clinical Research.
  • Draft and update privacy policies, user agreements, and compliance playbooks with counsel.
  • Support fundraising materials, forecasts, and investor-ready narratives.
  • Author clear memos and thought leadership on AI mental health policy and social impact.

Requirements:

Lead marketing at a critical growth stage. You run integrated campaigns with Marketing Specialists, Product, Clinical Research, and Strategy & Policy so messaging stays empathetic, evidence-aware, and compliant while driving awareness and activation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute multi-channel strategies for acquisition and brand awareness.
  • Manage SEO, SEM, social, email, and content campaigns.
  • Build and optimize funnels from awareness through download and activation.
  • Track CAC, LTV, and ROI; report insights to leadership with Data Analyst support.
